We Need Not Worry

We live in frightening times, yet we need not fear. As tensions between nations increase, people living in times like these tend to believe that the condition of the earth is worse than ever. Yet even in ancient times wars and other calamities caused unrest and worry among people.
Politicians tell us that climate change could end life on earth. Some religious personalities expect an apocalyptic destruction any day. But I’m not worried. Why? Because, as the psalmists wrote long ago, God says, “Stop striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted on the earth” (Psalm 46:10 NASB).
Whatever temporary situation may arise, God has it under control. His plan of redemption came to earth in Jesus Christ, and it will prevail. So whatever you hear, remember that The LORD of armies is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold (v. 11 NASB). We need not worry.
Psalm 46 shows us the confidence we can have in troubled times. It opens with these words:
God is our refuge and strength, a very ready help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth shakes and the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake at its swelling pride (vv. 1-3 NASB).
