Recently, I had two surgeries to remove cataracts from my eyes. Both went miraculously well and the result is amazing. Things I thought were dull beige are now bright white. Even my depth perception has improved, as if I went from a two-dimensional world to vibrant 3D.
I am praying that the Lord will give me better spiritual vision, just as the doctors enabled this new physical vision. The Bible tells us, “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18, KJV). All around us today, people perish for a lack of vision – vision of the truth in all of the issues we face.
This was true in the disciples’ time as well. Paul expressed his concerns to the Church in Corinth by writing, “I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ” (2 Corinthians 11:3, NASB).
We need to return to that simple, pure devotion to Jesus Christ. Isaiah described the Israelites as “a rebellious people, who walk in the way which is not good, following their own thoughts” (Isaiah 65:2, NASB). It’s not good to follow our own thoughts; we need wisdom from God. But here’s an important revelation: All your thoughts are not your own. They are suggestions from the realm of deception and darkness, leading to defeat and the destruction of everything precious.
What we can’t see controls what we can see. The invisible realm has power over the visible. We are not wrestling and fighting against “flesh and blood,” as Paul stated, “but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12, NASB).We are in a battle in the spiritual realm. That’s the very real realm that affects everything.
We know that unbelievers cannot fully comprehend God’s truth. Their vision is hindered by “the god of this world [who] has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” (2 Corinthians 4:3-4, NASB). But we, as believers, can take on the powers of darkness by putting on the armor of light. We do battle in the spiritual realm and win when we trust the only One who has conquered the power of the enemy.
I believe we can have miraculous vision in the spiritual realm. I’m praying the light of God’s glory and truth flows so freely through His people that the light is overwhelming. We can be like a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden, exposing the error and evil of our day and illuminating the way to safety and security.
Pray that God will show us the way to His truth so we can live controlled by the Holy Spirit, bearing the fruit of the Spirit. We can reveal the characteristics of Jesus through our words and deeds. Not only do I pray for my spiritual vision to improve as miraculously as my physical vision, but I pray that for you. May God give us clear vision and enable us to open the eyes of the blind.
