New Shoes Make for A Happy Day in Costa Rica

Recently, our missionary partner in Costa Rica shared the following report about a young girl whose life was impacted through the Christmas Shoe Project. His words offer a powerful glimpse into how something as simple as a pair of shoes can bring protection, dignity and hope.

Dear James and Betty,
In a neighborhood marked by danger, where gang activity and the exploitation of young girls are tragically common, hope arrived in the form of something simple: a new pair of shoes!

This young girl lives in one of the most at-risk suburbs of the capital city in Costa Rica. Until now, she wore tattered shoes that offered little protection against the broken glass, stony potholes and discarded needles that litter the streets.

During one of our regular feeding outreaches, the children also received brand-new shoes – sturdy and safe – shoes to call their own. These shoes are more than protection; they are a sign that someone sees them, values them and is committed to walking with them.

Through consistent outreach, meals and relationship-building, the Christmas Shoe Project is helping to create a lifeline of safety, dignity and hope for girls like this.

With love and appreciation, Dwayne Weehunt, Missionary Partner

When we receive mission reports like this, my heart rejoices for the work being done and especially for the children. New shoes are appreciated around the world and provide the protection children need to keep cuts, disease and bruises from crippling them. This outreach has become a favorite with the friends of LIFE, We are so thankful for their prayerful and faithful giving.
