Biography
Care Tuk, MEd, OTR/L lives in Wasilla, Alaska. She is a graduate of the University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, WA, where she graduated with honors. She received her Master’s in (Early Childhood) Education from Lesley College, Cambridge, MA. She has worked in the field of occupational therapy and disability outreach/advocacy for over 35 years.
Care has traveled, taught, and spoken internationally in Russia, Tobago/West Indies, Albania, and Canada. She was featured on NBC Nightly News for a wheelchair distribution in Albania. She assisted with an article for LIFE magazine on wheelchair distribution in China. She has been selected as Alumni of the Year for Lesley College for her work. In 2000, she was named Top 5 Business Women on Their Way for Wyndham Resorts, American Airlines, and Liz Claiborne. She has worked with and for Joni and Friends – the Disability Outreach Ministry of internationally known Joni Eareckson Tada, assisting in the development of Wheels for the World and additionally as Program Development Coordinator for Family Retreats. She was selected as one of 8 Alaskans to attend Celebration on the Hill 2006 in Washington DC, and spoke in front of Congress on behalf of those battling cancer, especially in Alaska. Care was selected as Alaska’s FIRST Hero of Hope 2013 – Great West Division (12 states) for the American Cancer Society.
Care was exposed to the drug DES (Dieythlstibesterol), is a 14 time (separate battles) cancer survivor in addition to surviving a rare brain bleed, a second craniotomy, PLUS being hit by a drunk driver. Currently, she is the author of Loose Screws and Skinned Knees: Turning Life’s Obstacles and Adversity into Opportunities and Adventure; a consultant/speaker on issues of disability outreach, awareness, and accessibility, and an ambassador of HOPE! Her second book is Don’t Wimp Out! Finding Faith, Courage and Victory in Life’s Daily Battles.
