God Treasures Your Faith

Let me say a word to those who have battled and contended for years. I know this struggle well. I’ve fought for full healing from the effects of Lyme disease for over three decades. These symptoms have knocked me down and taken me out too many times to count. If you have been battling for a long time, I wish I could wrap you in a hug and whisper a prayer for you. In fact, I’ve had the privilege of embracing and praying for countless women across the country. I long to see a wave of healing sweep through our land, especially for those who have fought long and hard for their freedom and wholeness.

I know God’s ways are a mystery. I don’t understand why some receive miraculous healing on this side of heaven while others do not. I refuse to believe it’s because they missed a step or lacked sufficient faith. God gifts us with faith. Yes, we must steward it, but He is far more gracious with us than we are with ourselves. In fact, when you read through the “Hall of Faith,” as recorded in Hebrews 11, you find that some people died without receiving what God had promised them.

As a young believer, I often wondered, Then what’s the point of faith in His promises? But as I grew, I learned that life on earth is short, and eternity is forever. If we don’t receive the promise in this life, it’s because the answer is too glorious for earth to contain. And those heroes in the Hall of Faith who died before receiving the promise? Scripture says that “the world was not worthy of them” (Hebrews 11:38 NIV).

You must discern for yourself what kind of faith God has imparted to you. Is it a fledgling faith? A mountain-moving faith? You know, a mustard-seed-sized faith is all you need. Wherever you are today, remember that faith doesn’t grow without active, persistent use.

If you are in Christ, Christ is in you, which means He has imparted a measure of faith to you. Have you activated that gift of faith recently? Are you contending for a breakthrough? Are you responding to the promises of God? If you’re confused about the idea of faith, just ask God to show you what He’s given you faith for, what promises He wants you to stand on, and how to apply that faith practically to your current situation.

God has given you a gift of faith, but you’re the one who gets to steward His promises in a way that fits your particular season of life. So, dare to ask yourself, Am I settling for less than God’s best for me? Since your faith pleases God and is more precious to Him than gold, trust Him to train you to walk in faith. Faith isn’t a feeling. It’s not an emotion. It’s “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things” yet unseen (Hebrews 11:1 NKJV).

I’ve noticed that when I quiet the external noise and immerse myself in God’s Word and worship for extended periods, I rise from that place with a deep and strong sense of my God-given authority. Because I walk in step with the Spirit, I speak with precision and pray with power. We’re the best version of ourselves when we walk in the Spirit!

When I rely deeply on His input, I suddenly remember verses I memorized years ago. I recall stories from Scripture that I haven’t read in ages. I share wisdom and insights that are as new to me as they are to the person I’m talking to. Scripture reminds us that God confides in those who fear Him (Psalm 25:14; Jeremiah 33:3; John 14:26). He tells us things we wouldn’t otherwise know. And He brings to remembrance things He’s spoken to us in the past. When I walk in the Spirit, I have peace, perspective, and a strong sense that God is with me.

Conversely, when I squander time on social media or cable news, I feel my self-life starting to show. For example, I’m quickly discouraged or easily distracted. And I lack the power in my steps that I know God has made available to me.

Activated faith keeps me dependent on God, empowers my prayers, and changes me from the inside out.

So what about you? How have your battles strengthened you? Have you, at times, given in too quickly when the Enemy sought to torment, taunt, or steal from you? What might a fiercer faith look like in you and on you?

Even now, you’re facing battles and challenges that could serve you well in the days ahead. May God show you the promises that are yours for the taking in this season. Reclaim the territory God has promised you! God not only treasures you for who you are, but He also sees you for who you can become. Every blessing, every battle in your life is an invitation to engage with God so He can transform you and redeem your story.
